Empire: The Rise and Demise of the British World Order and the Lessons for Global Power by Niall Ferguson
challenging

I guess this has facts in a technical recounting sense - things like how many people died or lived. But the outlandish conclusions -- Britain should be absolved of imperial wrongdoing because it sacrificed its empire to prevent a Nazi victory in WWII, chief among them -- drawn from the facts, and the complete inability to make an imperial history that meaningfully spends times on the perspectives of non-Britons condemn this to the bin. Not something to assign, suggest, read.
