Her Highlander's Touch (Time After Time Book 1) by Jordyn LeFay

2.0

Serendipitously I began reading this shortly after I began watching the Outlander TV series. However, this leads me to see far too many similarities between the two that are more than just mere coincidence. Some of the character names seem to be far too close and events mirror those from Diana Gabaldon's novels. There were plenty of differences, but the similarities made it hard for me to honestly lose myself in this book.

Jordyn LeFay's writing style, however, was great. I'd be interested in giving her writing another chance by picking up more of her work. In the first few chapters, the main character felt real and I could connect easily. There were little ties to our modern age that grounded it in reality. But once the main storyline was set in motion, it seemed to go too fast for me. The buildup was good and took its time to introduce the reader to our characters, but after that, things seemed too rushed and I lost all sense of the in-depth emotional view we had of our protagonist.

That all being said, I read romance novels for one primary purpose, and those scenes certainly did not disappoint! I wish they had been a bit longer, though. All in all, I was left wanting more from this book and was a bit disappointed at how abruptly it ended.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
