Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas

This was one of those novels where you keep going, because it has all this promise, and you keep waiting, and then, you've finished and the promise has not really been kept.

The voice is compelling, the idea is compelling, but it never feels as if it's actually explored with any vigor or depth. There are many character and plot points touched on, and, again, the waiting, you keep thinking they'll be expanded upon, but, they aren't.

There is much here about power and presumption of privilege and manipulating those in difficult circumstances and loads of other relevant ideas and issues we are now facing, things now coming to light in the world, but, these suggestions remain just that. Suggestions rather than real explorations.

I wanted to (and kept waiting to) like it s much more than I did.
