I think I enjoyed this one more when I first read it
It is a good start to the series as we start to meet the people of Mace’s group
What I liked
I liked the premises of it, the fact that Mace was to kill Jonas but something about Jonas stopped him. I also liked that his emotions were all over the shot as he tried to work out just what Jonas was and what to do about it. His guilt when it all came out made me feel sorry for him. He battled with what to do without taking the shot as soon as he was able but he was still demonised for it.
I also liked Jonas and how even though he had his issues he had a great personality that was pretty happy going. His pain when his past came up was hard to read. I liked how the guys gave him time to come to terms with what he wanted and could do. They never moved any quicker than what he wanted. I do think that once they got going it was pretty quick for him to join in, but it was what it was.
Cole was good, seeing him come to terms with his attraction to two guys. I also think this was done pretty easily and thought there would be more introspection. But I liked how he looked out for Jonas throughout it all.
I remember feeling that this series broke my heart the first time reading it and have been wanted to read it again, but this read didn’t have the same punch for me.
