The Old Maid by Edith Wharton

Classic Edith Wharton. If you are familiar with her other works, this will be no surprise. In fact, you will literally know some of the supporting characters. There are the vivid descriptions of society life, the biting social commentary, the repressed and oppressed women, but somehow this fell a little flat for me. Perhaps it's that one of the main characters is just so unpleasant, I don't know. I understand that I'm to have sympathy for her position, but the fine balance of motivation and behavior just didn't hit the mark for me. Maybe the short format limited or rushed some activity. I usually do love her work, but this wasn't my favorite.
