description

Supervisory Special Agent Eric Rhodes and ADA Shannon Quinn are "in hiding" after an attempt in the latter's life came from the last book. Eric is still battling his traumatic past while protecting himself and Shannon as the FBI is trying to close in the suspects operating a big crime syndicate in Richmond. Amidst searching all those months, there were no leads on the shooter or the cartel leader.

True to Blake's past works, expect to be sucked into the world of mystery, suspense, and internal conflicts. What to expect in Protected?
There are the usual steamy scenes, broken characters, complex connections and revelations, and jaw-dropping revelations that lead to a spectacular ending...or not!

The POV's from Eric and Shannon's POV and the writing was a thrilling one. From the very start, the writing will suck readers in. It was impossible not to be involved with suspense, intrigue, and more questions popping up each chapter - where, who, why, and how. The main character's inquisitive and internal thought helped a lot.

I love honest and rational characters. There's a significant turning point in the book that deals with Eric's past and present "colliding." The author did not shy away from dealing with the situation head-on. (FYI: I was curious if either main character's "pasts" comes back, and true enough - the author delivers!) Eric's reaction showed how much he has grown and the level of commitment he was willing to go for Shannon. His honesty and voicing his feelings clear in this scene made me fall for him all over again! He did not "ignoring" the incident and instead explained it perfectly. I love the author's decision on this scene. It goes against the grain of adding more conflict when the suspense is already killing me.
"If there's somebody who I know with certainty will always find me, that someone is you."
-- Shannon, Protected

Note that all the characters were blatantly honest, which is very refreshing for me. Yes, there were internal insecurities, but the characters did not hold back and speak their truths when asked outright. Most of the highlighted quotes in my ebook are all Eric's. Even with him all "broken," he comes out very enlightened and changed in this journey!

Protected will keep you guessing until the ending - a word of advice, DON'T. Just enjoy the story because I am sure you would not have thought this one. Gosh, the "secrets" that came out in the end - SHOCKER! What a great connection that transitions into the next book in the series. Warning: Readers, you will be "on the edge of your seat" until the last chapter - believe me on this! Even until the end, the biggest shock comes "when the dust settles" and - just you think you can breathe easy - you can't.

I love the "love letter to readers" from Eric and Shannon at the end. It's a goodbye letter for readers but also gives them a final say. This last part was a challenging read. I felt torn between wanting to hold on to Eric and letting him go to have his HEA. It brings joy and sadness all at the same time - as readers move to the next book in the series - Maddox's story is coming!
"I will always find you no matter where you are, and regardless of how lost I am in this life, you are the woman I will unfailingly find my way back to. Always."
