The beautiful cover, the description of a mystery novel, dark academia vibes and a bestselling international author I hadn’t read before convinced me to pick up this book.
The mysteries are all there, from the beginning. A few of them became clear soon, but some were slowly unraveling.
The story is split up into three parts, following Sade in different time periods. The short chapters are interrupted by short notes, anagrams with mysterious clues. I loved this way of unraveling a story. The beautiful headers of each chapter made it a great reading experience.
The topics are heavy: suicide, domestic violence, abuse, drugs, gender identity, racial discrimination, friendships and betrayal. But sadly all relatable for a lot of young adults.
For me, the young adult vibe was a little too much. Some actions were so naive I couldn’t barely believe that it was happening. But when I look back, it could be my kind of action when I had the age of a young adult. So I guess that is my point of view as an adult.
It was a great read and I really enjoyed several parts of the story. I certainly want to read more of this author!
