A Place Called Home: A Memoir by David Ambroz
5.0
Author David Ambroz writes about growing up homeless on the streets of New York. No, he's not homeless because he ran away or was thrown out of his childhood home. Rather he lives on the streets with his mentally ill mother who maneuvers life by the perceived threats in her head. The danger of living on the streets is compounded by the violence that David's mother showers on him and his siblings. Because of the constant threat of harm, David becomes hypervigilant to his surroundings which saves him from dangerous situations. Fortunately David eventually becomes a ward of the foster system, which brings threats of its own. What becomes of David is a tale of his resiliency and his awareness that the world is not all darkness.
David Ambroz went on to graduate from Vassar College, Law School and has a real passion to shed light to the foster care system and to bring change to it.
