Better Hate than Never by Chloe Liese
3.0
I wanted to love this so much. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect with these two MCs at all. They reluctantly came to like each other, but I didn't even buy that they actually did until the very end.
And they hated each other so much for what? They refused to actually get to know about each other's lives or who they were as adults, just continued to judge each relentlessly because of their childhood past. They hated each other as kids because a baby Kate threw up on 6 year old Christopher. That's what every baby does. It wasn't personal. I don't get it.
He mentioned pushing her away since he couldn't control his feelings toward her, but that didn't create all the preexisting animosity.
I guess the same childhood theme carried on into adulthood because they literally acted like a couple of 8 year olds arguing. It wasn't even funny banter.
I hated the constant references to their childhood like they literally couldn't have possibly changed since then. It was weird.
After the 60% point, I enjoyed the book considerably better. The clear communication at the end was a breath of fresh air that the majority of authors don't use. No 3rd act breakup or conflict. Loved it.
