Tiamat's Wrath by James S.A. Corey
4.0
Well I thought this was great. The books have gone a whole different direction from the early novels; the story of Laconia and the continuing gate menace could really be told with entirely different characters. But having our good ol' beloved characters continue through makes for good times. The new characters added are good too, I particularly like Teresa.
The one thing suffering from this book (and maybe the previous?) is less attention to world building. The early books were full of details of Belter language, culture, economics, how life worked. In the post-gate world they've dispensed with explaining all of that. What is Laconia like? How do the economics work? How do day to day disputes get resolved? All that is stripped away in service to telling the soap opera story of our characters plus the big menace of the Big Bad.
Still enjoying the main story, and the soap opera stuff, and the mix of the two. Excited for the finish.
