When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker is such a unique fantasy romance—I’m still thinking about it! It’s got everything: forced proximity, mythical creatures, political intrigue, and a love story that’s anything but ordinary.

First off, if you’re reading this, I highly recommend grabbing a physical copy because there’s a cheat sheet at the back. Fair warning, though: the family tree does spoil the ending, and since I’d already peeked, I was a little confused why the characters didn’t know sooner. Oops!

I did struggle a bit with the POV chapters from “The Other.” The first time it happened, I genuinely thought I’d skipped a section of the book, but in a weird way, it helped me connect with Rave, our FMC, because she was just as confused as I was! I really liked Rave, but she did get a little repetitive with the whole “woe is me, everyone I love dies” thing. I get it, girl, but let’s switch it up a bit!

Now, let’s talk about the writing. This might just be one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. The world-building is chef’s kiss (oops, I wasn’t going to say that, but it’s true). It’s so immersive and detailed. Honestly, this could’ve been a solid 5 stars for me if there was a little less focus on the romance—which I never thought I’d say!

The glossary at the end was a lifesaver. It not only helped me keep track of all the characters but also figure out how to pronounce some of the more creative names and terms in this world.

All in all, this is a very strong 4.5 stars for me. I can’t quite bring myself to give it the full 5, but I’m so excited to see what comes next in this series. If you’re into beautifully written, layered fantasy romance, you need this on your shelf!
