The Chrysalids by John Wyndham

4.0

John Wyndham's The Crysalids is an extraordinary work of classic dystopian with sci-fi-horror elements. The characters feel alive and fleshed out, and the political background of the world seems to almost mirror ours in many ways -- the extremist religious doctrine that dictates David, Rosalind and Petra's life has roots within our own contemporary society. Wyndham doesn't shy away from the rotten underbelly of his world's, beckoning you in page by page until the final lingering paragraph sticks with you for weeks after. Overall, The Crysalids is a masterful work and one I recommend greatly to anyone who enjoys their fair share of dystopian fiction.
