The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

I was kinda lost in my reading journey for the past weeks and after rereading The Grisha Trilogy I picked The Language of Thorns.

I go into this knowing fully well I will like it and I know that The Soldier Prince would be my favourite since the first page I was in. I was right.

This is anthology of stories are folklores (by their own right) from all over the countries in Grishaverse (Ravka of course, Novy Zem, Kerch and Fjedar) and it was telling that all these stories has their own inspirations from the fairytales a lot of us know and love.

I read this in 2 day (3 stories each) and love it. It was a breath of fresh air on how most of the story ended. And all almost shocking really. (Darkling cameo? Damn.)

My favourite to least are;
1. The Soldier Prince
2. Ayama and The Thorn Wood
3. The Witch of Duva
4. Little Knife
5. When Water Sang Fire
6. The Too Clever Fox

All of them are unique and exciting to read but when I finished The Soldier Prince, I couldn’t help but to go back and reread it again. I love the theme so much that I’m still thinking about that particular short story.

A great exciting read from the Grishaverse and I could tell I would come back to reread them again.
