The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel

5.0

This book is not what I thought it would be in the best possible way. I went into this book with caution, but in the end found myself hopelessly enjoying it and unable to put it down.

Amy Engel's story is enthralling! Her world building and descriptions make it very easy to picture as I read. The emotions she tried to convey to the readers was very well done. Everything that was said and done between the characters was very realistic and believable. Nothing felt unnatural or forced.

The only problem I had was how increasingly naive Ivy was at times. She was an easily persuaded girl, but it wasn't so annoying that I couldn't enjoy the book. I could understand where she was coming from. It's hard to change the person our parents raised us to be. It's embedded into us and very hard to let go of the things we have been taught even if we don't believe them anymore. Ivy was a victim of this. She went under some deep character development easily making her one of my favorite fictional characters I've read about.

It's going to be torture waiting all the way until November 2015 to read the next book! I want it now! I still have so many questions about Ivy and her well being. My mind will constantly be wondering what happened. But the best books leave you craving and wishing for more and this one did just that.

I praise Amy Engel for a job well done.

My rating is 4.5 out of five stars.
