Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
4.0
A friend of mine was told (not by me) that Elantris was the place to start if you’ve never read Brandon Sanderson and want to check his stuff out. I think that’s wrong. (My answer is Mistborn or Skyward, for anyone asking)
BUT! I still really came to love this book. It starts out with a strong, interesting premise, and then drags for awhile. I’ve come to trust Sanderson’s process. I know that I’m going to be rewarded for pushing through any sluggish parts. And the the sluggish parts serve a purpose! So I trust, read, and am rewarded. This book was no different. I came to love the characters, and it even brought a tear or two.
I was a little worried near the end that we were headed into Deus Ex Machina territory, but dammit the resolution was earned! Good stuff, read it.
