I hyperfocused on this audiobook to the point that I finished it in 2 days. Which is pretty unheard of for me. But this book basically reached into my brain and pulled everything I could've asked for. All my favorite tropes in a WWI setting with a main character who loves Classics??? Truly I want to make the rating 5.75 but 1) I don't know if it'll let you do that and 2) don't want people to think it's a mistake. IT'S JUST SO GOOD! THE WAY EVERYTHING IS HANDLED IS EXCELLENT! IT NAILS THE HISTORY WHILE CREATING NEW CHARACTERS THAT FEEL LIKE THEY BELONG IN THAT HISTORY. AND IT DOESN'T SHY AWAY FROM THE BRUTALITY OF THAT HISTORY OR HOW IT AFFECTED PEOPLE. AND THE AUDIOBOOK!! I WON'T SAY TOO MUCH BUT HONESTLY I WOULD RECOMMEND LISTENING TO PORTIONS OF IT EVEN IF YOU DON'T LISTEN TO THE WHOLE THING BECAUSE THEY MADE A DECISION THAT CAN ONLY BE DONE VIA AUDIO AND IT'S HAUNTING IN THE PERFECT WAY. Will I scream about this book to anyone who will listen for who knows how long? Absolutely.
