Another 5 star read for 2022. I knew I would love this book from all the recommendations from the Booktubers I follow.

When I first saw this book going around Booktube, I immediately recommended it to the National Library Board in Singapore and was so glad that my recommendation was accepted. They got both the ebook and the audiobook and for that I an grateful.

Finally got around to reading the ebook as I listened to the audiobook. I loved the writing and storytelling style of Zoraida Córdova. It was accessible and easy to get into. I enjoyed the double timeline approach in the storytelling. I find that the mysteries were unfolded at the right moments and how the one of the revelations surprised me pleasantly. I enjoyed the magic system even though it wasn’t very clearly spelled out but it was simple enough to understand.

I enjoyed the commentary on how mistakes can destroy families when they are projected onto family members with no explanation and how once a decision is made, a word is said and an action is done, it starts a ripple that can spread throughout generations and how pride doesn’t help make things better but just adds fuel to the fire.

Could this book be longe? It could but at this point in time, I am happy with the length of the book and I thought that it covered all the things it was meant to cover well.

Well, maybe the part about fighting the evil that had been hunting the family could be a little bit more challenging. Other than that, I love this book. It’s not perfect but it’s still good enough for me to give it a 5-star rank based on my enjoyment of the book and how the writing style and storytelling managed to hold my attention and made me fly through the book quickly. I didn’t want to put the book down.
