Mona of the Manor: A Novel by Armistead Maupin
1.5
I loved Tales as a high schooler in the 90s whose only other queer book options were Annie On My Mind and Rubyfruit Jungle... good grief, I hope those hold up better than Maupin. This latest installment feels so hopelessly dated and squicky. How many times can an editor NOT say "let's not describe your nameless Roma characters as sloe-eyed?" TOO MANY. Even the "thanks for letting me crash at your fancy house, famous old white gay men!" acknowledgements page was cringe af.
