How the Streets Were Made: Housing Segregation and Black Life in America by Yelena Bailey

Did not finish book. Stopped at 41%.
A Disclaimer: I really do hope to get back to this book when I feel like I have more time to devote to it. However, that will definitely not be before the end of 2021 so I'm DNFing for now and I hope to pick it back up in 2022!

So I started this book in September and haven't picked it up in at least two months. However, this book has a ton of great information. I really hope to come back to it someday because the author is local to me but the writing was just too academic. If I had to read this for a class, I think I would have been able to push through but I couldn't even get through it before we discussed it for book club. I can't say I disliked it because I felt like I learned a lot from what I did read. However, every time I sat down to read it, I felt the need to take copious notes. Generally, I use tabs to annotate what I read but I would make sure I had a highlighter and pencil so I could take notes in the margins with this book. It just felt like I was at school while I was reading it. As a teacher, that's not something I see as a negative but it just feels like work and I haven't been able to get into the headspace to finish it.
