My second horror read for my Halloween Spookfest Read.

This novel was highly recommended by a dear friend of mine and, after hearing her tell me it was one of the spookiest thing she had ever read, I decided to read it and to Hell if I couldn't sleep anymore.

Well, I can still sleep. Granted there are horrific scenes but they fast wean out and become more paranormal than raw horror. Still, the idea of the story is interesting if albeit a bit heavy-handed at times and the ending is, perhaps, a bit too predictable and facile.

One thing I had to do more than once while reading this novel was to remind myself of the year t was written. It's age shows in how society is perceived, the undercurrent of misogyny and slight racism. But it was written in a time where these things were perfectly normal for a good portion of society.

Other than that bit, it's a good read. Some parts scared me, others made me snort cynically but over all a good read.
