Acne: A Memoir by Laura Chinn

5.0

A moving memoir about how the author loves and embraces her dysfunctional family while at the same time dealing with a lifelong struggle with acne. Chinn, the creator of Florida Girls, writes about how struggling with her less-than-perfect skin has caused her to have a critical inner voice. Author Chinn has a lot of material to write about; she is mixed race but presents as Caucasian, her parents were Scientologists and her beloved, older brother is diagnosed with a brain tumor.
What could be a maudlin read is anything but somber. Instead this is a book about cancelling out negative thoughts and instead realizing what life truly is. A gift to be fully realized, not matter the pain.
