Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

4.0

If you are a fan of The Hunger Games or Divergent then this book is for you. It's the same kind of plot; classism based on the physical, magical differences between classes with a female lead that just wants her family to live comfortably and goes against the government/monarchy. I can already imagine this book as a film, which is hard for me because the way I imagine settings is really hazy because I skim world building a lot but because 'Red Queen' explained everything simply and didn't have paragraphs upon paragraphs describing minor details such as clothes or decor, I found it easy to create scenes in my head without feeling like I've received too much information to comprehend at once.

The romance in this book reminds me of 'The Cruel Prince' - it's pretty much a subplot. My expectations of it being based on the main characters love life is Tiktoks fault because everyone said that it was. It happened with 'The Cruel Prince'. Everyone in tiktok said it was full of romance which is such a lie. Still enjoyed the book, and will probably read rest of the series at some point, but I was disappointed. So, if you are looking to read this book for romance, then let me tell you now, it's not as romancy as people make it out to be.
