The Giver by Lois Lowry

4.0

Somehow I graduated high school without ever picking up this book. It was one of those books that everyone always talked about in school (much like Holes) and I had no idea what they were talking about. But now I do.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading. My sister, who recommended that I finally read it, told me it was kind of dystopian/government take over.

I was hooked from the start and had a hard time putting it down. I found myself engrossed in the world and it's people. Jonas was a likable character and I enjoyed watching him develop with the more he knew. I didn't care for the ending, it left me with so many questions.

Overall the book was more intense than I thought it would be but I enjoyed it a lot.
