I wasn't sure that any sequel could match what Klune accomplished in The House in the Cerulean Sea. I was wrong. While this book is decidedly more politically motivated than the first, it has all the heart and depth that made the first book so beautiful. There is as much to love in this book as there is love in it. Surprises and heartfelt moments made me squeal in delight more than once. It is a love letter to the LGBTQ+ community and to anyone who has felt othered by our society. The entire duology should be required reading.

I also would like to note that Henning is the best narrator I've ever listened to. His skill with making distinct voices for each character and his ability to put such strong emotion into his reading should be commended.
