The Varieties of Religious Experience by William James

5.0

It's been a decade since I last read this. The first two chapters/lectures still provide some of the best frameworks for understanding religion or religious experience I have encountered.

William James understands how to explore religion from an intellectually rigorous way while treating the subject matter honestly, respectfully—he allows the experiences of the subjects to breathe. A charitable atheist, inquiring agnostic, or believing reader will all find something worthwhile in this lecture series.

I plan on revisiting this book soon, in printed word, because there's so much meat to it, which can be difficult to consume when it's an audiobook.
