We Met in Death by K.A. Merikan

4.0

The first thing that hooked me in and kept me reading this story was the eerie atmosphere the book opens with. K.A. Meriken outdid themselves with this book. This story has it all, its dark and intense the characters are both morally skewed and damaged. Their world is not for the faint at heart. I’ll keep this review as spoiler-free as possible.

Robert is no stranger to death. He’s been dealing in death since he was 16 years old and doled it out for his employer until he finally decided to end it all and kill himself until a twist of fate derailed his plans. That twist came in the form of Nathan, a young man who relies on prostitution to secure his livelihood.

Nathan and Robert are both damaged individuals plagued by personal demons. Robert is a closeted assassin wary of the violent crime ridden world he lives in. Nathan is a good-looking out and proud gay man who uses his appearance to keep people from digging below the surface where a world of hurt exists. Nathan made the poor choice of being the escort for Robert’s boss. A man who cruelly kills his enemies and his toys once he’s done with them out of fear. One cannot be a crime boss and gay.

The attraction between Nathan and Robert is palpable. I was instantly smitten with these two and angered with Robert for all the hell he puts Nathan through before finally coming to his senses and embracing an integral part of his nature that he has denied for 2 decades. These two ladies have once again penned a fabulous novel that had my heart racing, practically beating out of my chest towards the end! This story was everything I expected and so much more. If you are looking for a fast-paced, heartbreaking, heart-pounding action-packed story. Give this one a try. I absolutely loved it!
