Magical/Realism: Essays on Music, Memory, Fantasy, and Borders by Vanessa Angélica Villarreal

dark emotional informative reflective sad medium-paced

4.0

This is a book of essays about Vanessa's life and how it relates to things going on in her life and the country.  She is a first generation American and that is a big focus of her writing.  I found each of her essays thought provoking and interesting.  The essays about video games lost me because I'm not a video game player.  I also thought that it was a touch too long in places and could've been edited down to be more concise and not feel like it was dragging.
