This book is about a time in the world where the animals are no longer safe to eat, so people start "farming" humans and eat them.  Marcos works at a slaughterhouse, but is given a woman (to be slaughtered), and he knows that he should kill her, but he is lonely and wants to keep her.  I've heard of this novel from so many people and I kind of had high expectations going into it.  I thought it would be more of a horror novel, but it wasn't.  There were not as many disgusting things that I thought would be in the book. There is one scene where some dogs are killed and that was the most disturbing to me (I guess the human killing wasn't disturbing because it isn't something that is currently done).  I thought the story was only so-so and had so much more potential.  It is pretty short and easy to get through.  The ending was surprising.
