Dar by Vladimir Nabokov

5.0

Nabokov used heavily his experience in this book, and it sounds very emotionally real. It is said that he see the goal of write in transforming the reader into the spectator, and he achieved it. Magnificent writing, many layers of narrative.

The book contains many contradictions. He combined conviction that any division of people according to ethnicity and nationality (I can't agree more) with deep dislike of everything German.
