Slay is a really unique book, looking through the lens of 17-year-old Kiera - a sister, daughter, girlfriend, and secret game developer. She's spent countless hours of her life working on the virtual reality game Slay with a girl she only knows as Cicada. Creating a place for black men and women to come together without any pretenses has been her life's work so far. But it's a secret, especially from her boyfriend, who disapproves of anything other than pursuing greatness as a person of color.

When someone is killed because of a dispute in the game, Kiera must come to terms with her secret. Through Kiera's viewpoint, texts and messages, the story comes together in a super interesting way. Kiera's voice and journey feel very authentic to a 17-year-old, something that doesn't always get captured.

I listened to this on audio, and I loved the cast of voices used for the few other places where someone else narrates a chapter. Very well done.
