What an amazing idea. What awful, awful execution. I held out until page 76, but had to give up. The characters range from flat to unlikeable, the science does nothing to enhance enjoyment, plot points are many but shallow. An unpleasantly long time is devoted to bland character interaction, so that by the time I got to even read about the titular structure, I was bored to tears. The sexism doesn't even count as a proper complaint, that's how unreadable this is. Although it's certainly BEHIND its time, I've read older books with better portrayal of women. I heard that Pratchett did a satire of this, I might look into it since I find the concept genuinely intriguing. What a waste.
