From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley, Riley Keough

I almost didn't pick this up. I can't believe I almost didn't read this. I saw some positive reviews, but in truth, I never found myself intrigued by Lisa Marie Presley. When I saw B & N had a signed copy of this, I decided to give it a shot. I enjoyed her daughter Riley in the bits I've seen of her and it seemed fascinating that she picked this up where Lisa Marie left off.

What can you even say to summarize this? Lisa Marie was a wild child and did her own thing. In all things. She was immensely loved by her father and that feeling was so mutual that his passing affected her the entire rest of her life. Being a mother was her calling and her daughter has said so. She had such a close, loving relationship with her kids. She also struggled with addiction, just like her famous father, and just like her son did as well. This story chronicles her life in her words, as well as those of her daughter.

This broke my heart in a lot of ways and still sort of does for Riley, even though it's been years. Her mother was all consuming, and so was her mother's love. I can't imagine how hard it must be to go on without that. This was well done and for so many random thoughts and pieces gleaned from Lisa Marie's interviews, Riley really tied it all together with a bow and made it super digestible. This took less than two days to read. It was so, so good.
