To be honest I’ve never read anything by Thomas Mann and I haven’t even heard of him before this novel. I guess it’s because I’m fairly young and my mom did recognised his name and some of his books.

Mann lived in difficult times and I personally think that sometimes people tend to put too much pressure on some people. You could say it’s their responsibility because of their audience (like influencers in modern times) but we should all remember that they are human, like us. And sometimes they don’t know what to say or are scared or anxious to say what they think.

It was a magnificent book. It brought to life an interpretation of Thomas Mann that was so vivid I could conjure him in my mind while reading.

I’m also contemplating if maybe someday I should read Thomas Manns books. Especially the most controversial ones.
