I have to say, this is the best trilogy I've read so far, as of this review. Honestly, I highly doubt that's going to change.
The characters are great. It didn't take long at all for me to love every member of the party, except Silvara, but that's only because there wasn't much mention of her or her involvement aside from the escort. On top of that, their development was the best I've seen in any book I've read. They all had so much personal struggle, whether it was physical or emotional. At least one of the characters isn't even able to resolve their struggles at the end of the book. They all have so much depth; it feels like they are real, and they are relatable.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a little burned out on it once in a while, but most of the time it's easy to keep going because seriousness gets interrupted by the comic relief, which I personally think is a good thing. Tas and Fizban are great for that, yet they do it without even taking away from the story.
Love triangle, who doesn't like a good love triangle? This trilogy handled it well. It wasn't overdone or forced like so many other books these days. It just fit. The girls weren't terribly similar either. They were vastly different, which again, gave it more depth. I didn't like one of them. She was a bitch, and kind of a skank. Somehow she ended up growing on me a little before everything was over. I'm looking forward to/hoping to get to know her better in other books.
Another thing, I've never seen such foreshadowing before. The way it happened was a story in itself so it wasn't completely obvious when it started happening. If someone wasn't paying attention to the foreshadowing, then they would have missed the start of the real thing happening until the characters started pointing it out.
I'm the type of person who gets invested when I read. I felt, happy, sad, and frustrated, when scenes got intense, my heart beat with them. When things like that happen, that's how you know what you're reading is good. I was actually pretty worried about how the trilogy was going to end when the time neared. There are no real unnecessary details written in this story so it can change things really fast. It's good at keeping you on your toes that way.
