Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media by Edward S. Herman, Noam Chomsky
3.0
Definitely ~the~ companion to A PEOPLE’S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES, but it just wasn’t as enjoyable for me due to the (stale) prose, ordering of ideas, and constant self-referencing. Still, this book is REQUIRED READING FOR AMERICANS WHO TAKE ISSUE WITH OUR COUNTRY’S EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF WAR CRIMES and ANYONE WHO WISHES TO BE BETTER INFORMED or CULTIVATE MEDIA LITERACY especially leftists and socialists. Probably not a read for anyone else, including latte liberals, and most certainly not for republican types. This book could very easily buttress delusions in people who haven’t been taught to think critically. 3.5
If you want to understand how propaganda is employed in America, read it. This book will teach you that. It will take a little effort, but the real value of the book is to learn to apply its propaganda model to the news of today.
