Night by Elie Wiesel

I cried over and over and over and over. The most heart wrenching things are the way the enslaved are torn from their humanity so utterly, and then forced to do the dirty work of their murderers. The painful insights into dehumanization, savagery, and depravity condoned by the state and acted out through individuals is sobering. It forces you to look at the banality of evil, as well as its presence in all of us.
