On the Abolition of All Political Parties by Simon Leys, Czesław Miłosz, Simone Weil

4.5

I have many thoughts about this book.... Weil is an ingenious arguer, weaving tight philosophical arguments, but there is an underlying bitterness underneath - her unwavering commitment to 'truth', in context with her relationship to the Catholic Church, shifts the narrative. On a practical level, the philosophy holds true, but is ineffective - within leftist circles, those who think like her can posture about truth, and yet make no progress towards it. 'Such was the life of Simone Weil. A life of deliberate foolishness.'
