Biological Espionage: Special Operations of the Soviet and Russian Foreign Intelligence Services in the West by Alexander Kouzminov
3.0
An excellent book, overall, by Alexander Kouzminov, who provides a broad brushstroke of fascinating insights into the clandestine operations of the USSR's biological weapons programme and intelligence services during his long career as a senior operative.
Kouzminov is cautious enough to avoid delving too deeply (for the most part) into technical detail and overly-identifiable facts - after all, he would naturally wish to avoid becoming the covert target of his former agency or of any group acting at the behest of their superiors to silence him! For this reason, the reader might well be left (as I was) wishing for more detail and exploration of specific cases and events. That said, enough is exposed by Kouzminov to provide a decent appreciation of the growing (and disturbing) research and development of biological weapons programs in play by an increasing number of countries across the globe - not just the USSR.
It is a chilling thought that, rather than the world suffering a cataclysmic nuclear weapons deployment, we are more likely to be caught up in the suffocating fog of a biological weapons 'cloud' and be wiped out that way!
