Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole

GENUINELY considering this as one of my best book series. Top 3 for sure.

I saw someone say that the plot didn’t progress much in this book and I suppose that is true, but the WORLD BUILDING went so hard in this book. I am actually disturbed by some of the things I read. It’s THAT good. Also, with all the books out now, the pacing doesn’t bother me because I know I don’t have to wait a year for another book. I’m happy I got to read more about these characters and their world. I think the love triangle is a bit juvenile, but these books were written a loooong time ago now, so I’m cutting Kresley some slack (and compared to most books written during this time, the romance is very advanced lol). Also, I can’t recall a single book from the 2010s that could hold up in a reread now. That’s saying a lot about this series.

I love how empathetic Evie is. I love how desperately passionate Aric is (although there is a part of me who, personally, would not forgive him. Same goes for Jack. Maybe Evie should be with Selena lol). I love how fierce Jack is.

The concept of these books is so original and the writing draws you in so much, I definitely consider these as true 5/5 star books. I wish original books like this were still being written. It feels like all books these days are just overdone, poor copies of ACOTAR. Kresley I hope you see this and know I’m rooting for you girl!!! You’re so talented, don’t forget it!!! I’m ready for your next series when you are.

Edit: I actually recant my statement about nothing happening in this book. This book was traumatizing!!! Just because the romance didn’t advance very far didn’t mean that this book wasn’t an INSANE read. I don’t even have words to describe it.
