This book had its ups and downs for me. There were moments when I could care less for what was happening and then there were moments when the story gripped my attention and I didn't want to put iy down.

One thing remained constant throughout my reading the book and that is the constant confusion of the setting. Throughout the whole book I had no idea where Violeta and the cast of characters were. Were they in California? Or were they in Mexico? Or were they in some other part of Latin-America? I don't know. It just got worse towards the end of the book especially since the story was not told in chronological order. It was so confusing.

Although the story touched on some important themes and issues, I felt that the were more mentioned in passing rather than in depth. That said, the main theme of learning from one's mistakes, being independent and coming out of traumatic experiences were clearly expressed and I learnt something from them.

I might consider adding this book to my collection as there were some things I would like to revisit and reflect upon in the future.
