Just as fun as the first one. I love Felicity and how she grew so much as a person! I'm actually proud of her.
Now, was the plot as compelling and cool as the first one? Actually, I will say yes. The story of a determined woman and future doctor that has all opportunities denied by the men in the field is a familiar one, but Mackenzi Lee manages to transform the classic character arc into a magical and fun story without losing its touch with reality.
Felicity is stubborn and focused on her goals to such a degree that she is willing to put her life, and the ones around her, in danger to get what she wants. And while that is a necessary skill to have in her situation, is also not the more thoughtful or empathetic trait. And the story rightly calls her out for it.
Though I did miss the romance subplot of the first book, I appreciated how the author took that time to develop the female friendship between Felicity and Johanna. Two women with totally different approaches to femininity and dealing with patriarchy but who share a love for science and (eventually) an understanding and appreciation for each other despite their apparent differences.
Monty and Percy did have a couple appearances though, and they were everything to me.
