How to Tell When We Will Die: On Pain, Disability, and Doom by Johanna Hedva

challenging emotional informative reflective slow-paced

3.0

This is a book of essay's about Johanna's life and musings about life.  I really thought that this book would be more about what it is like being disabled in this world.  There is talk of her being disabled in a world not built for disabilities, but there was a lot less talked about than I thought that there would be.  I think that Johanna doesn't want to only focus on that, which I get (she even mentions it at one point), so she talks about a lot of other things.  I found it to be a lot of rambling that needed to be edited down because it sometimes got to be so boring.  I was listening to the book and I had it at 2.5 speed, just to get through it quicker.  She talks a lot about Susan Sontag, the Greek Gods, and astrology, which were some of the parts I didn't care about.  There were some things that were interesting and thought provoking, but overall it was a miss for me.
