Ghostly Tales and Eerie Poems (Illustrated Junior Library) by Edgar Allan Poe
4.0
I wasn't too fond of the first two stories. I actually DNF'd the third, Lygeia, because the thought of reading another drawn out tale about a young lady wasting away and the guy pining over her corpse was just....well it put me off.
The Fall of the House of Usher was appropriately unsettling and from then on, everything was very atmospheric and slightly creepy. Nothing truly terrifying but then again Poe is more about feeling that spooky dark academia thing that actually being scared out of your wits.
I was excited for the Murders in the Rue Morgue because I'd heard it was one of the first locked room mysteries.....but in all honestly I laughed too hard at the solution. Still it was really good.
I skipped only one more story, The Black Cat.....becuase no. Animal cruelty like that and I was donezo with that story.
The poetry was all right, though for the most part, not really a style I enjoy. The last, Alone, is one that I was fond of as a teenager so I did like reading that again. The Raven of course, always delights.
