3.5 / 5 - Audiobook
I do have to say that listening to this was easier than trying to read it. It was recommended to my by a friend and when I read the synopsis, the different terms and words that I wasn't sure how to pronounce made me want to put this off as the last one to read this year. But when it came up on Audible, I decided to give it a shot and was glad for it. Hearing the words that I was having trouble with was nice and made it easier to following along with the story.
That being said, there were still a few things that kept this book from being rated higher for me:
1) There were so many different POVs in this story, and without any clear "Meg" or "Simone" at the beginning of each section, that if I missed the character's name, I was lost as to what character I was "listening" to. It was written in third-person so I expected some flip-flopping around, but when 3 or more character POVs appear within the same chapter, it caused some issues.
2) This next one is an issue with the audible version itself. I don't know if it was the equipment that was used to record the narrator, Alexandra Harris, or what, but her voice was almost a constant hum throughout the book so it was hard to distinguish some words spoken. I had to turn the volume up beyond comfortable levels in order to hear exactly what was being said. Alexandra's impressions of the female's POVs were fine (understandably), her grumbly male characters needed some work.
The story overall was good and I want to learn what happens with Meg's Controller. But do I feel the rushing need to buy the next book and get started? Not really.
