This book was good but not what I was expecting. The plot was good and compelling even though sometimes I thought that there was a lot going on and that some plot points were dropped or pushed to the side a little bit (looking at you Menander). Additionally, I felt like I was kept at a distance from the story and characters. It felt like I was being told a story instead of living through Amara's experiences and feelings. I think that is what was keeping me from falling in love with this story completely, being kept at a distance like that.
