This was a quick read. This is a dark story in general and that’s not a problem. I understood that walking into this book.

*** spoilers ***

I felt this was multiple stories in one book. The beginning starts off with a nurse working at a prison and her abusive husband is the Warden of the prison. Meeting an inmate that shows interest and concern for her gives a new hope. I felt the author developed this portion of the story well. We get to see Tessa’s life and the way she thinks. Which are both bleak. After she and Garcin escape prison and she her life with her husband… the story took a weird turn.

Both are on the run separately… ok cool, it’s a different take. She’s then caught by “the bad people” who are trying to get to Garcin through her. Beaten and nearly death, Garcin saves the day in a suit.

We switch gears to now being in this man’s house and he’s super rich and a mercenary and wants to hold her captive. To then switch gears and let her be with him to murder the men that tried to murder them.

It’s felt under developed and we’re supposed to believe that this woman overcomes: sexual abuse, physical abuse, several deaths, a miscarriage, an abduction and a hero who saves her in a matter of 3-4 months and now she’s strong and in love. It would have been better to spend more time on this plot and potentially have a sequel. This was just all over the place.
