“I only know what I am.”
“And what are you?”
“Yours.”

A love so divine that I had to experience it again for a second time.
With the holiday a mere few days away, I’m thinking about how Morgan said Damien smelled like “expensive Christmas”. I’m thinking about how some human beings need power to feel in control to then exert that control over others. So now I’m thinking about how it’s beautiful when two people decide that they would rather be equals, because they know control cannot coexist within love.
I’m thinking about how even as a young black boy Damien knew he was not afforded the privilege of being a victim. I’m thinking about how Morgan tried so earnestly to prove someone wrong that she ended up proving them right. What happens when you make room for love because you realized control has been evicted and can no longer can be a resident in your heart? Vulnerability moved in and became the best tenant you ever had.
Even if there were a million reasons as to why Damien and Morgan shouldn’t have worked, there are a billion reasons why they did. Millie Belizaire is a master wordsmith and storyteller that effortlessly crafts love stories that are for the realists, but also speak to the lover they are at heart. A chemistry so arresting, the dialogue sublime, and the lesson of how love is beautiful when two people see each other as equals is one that doesn’t need to be refined.
