"Perfect Peace" is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ!

I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book but I am so glad I picked it up. In 1940’s Arkansas, Emma Jean Peace, a mother of 6 sons found herself so desperate for a daughter that though she birthed a 7th son she decided to decive an entire family and community by stating she had a daughter. "God helps those who help themselves!" Emma declared to the midwife, whom she blackmailed into keeping her secret. Emma named this child “Perfect Peace”, and kept the deception going until a series of events threatened to expose the lie and the truth had to be told. The revealing of this secret changed the trajectory of the life of Perfect Peace, who instantly went from the beautiful little girl to the boy outcast. No one could figure out what would possess a mother to do this to her child.

This book examines:
- Gender Roles
- Homophobia
- Expectations of Masculinity
- Love
- Psychological issues
- Sexuality
- Healing
- Cycles of abuse
- Forgiveness
- Body Shaming

This was an exquisitely written story with excellent character development. The development of each character was so amazing that you feel as if you know each character personally. The audio version was entertaining and the narrators made the book very hard to put down. This was a fantastic storyline, which gave all the feels. Though it was a heavy topic the humor throughout the chapters was amazingly sprinkled in and I loved it.

Highly recommend this book. 5 Stars For Me!
