The Taking by Dean Koontz

3.0

It's the same book Koontz has been writing for decades -

* REALLY great kickoff
* Super weird and suspenseful buildup of a bigger mystery
* Really surreal events
* There's the magical dog
* There's no way all this buildup can be wrapped up in the 50 pages left...
* Oh, so we're just going to deus ex machina and stop, OK.
* Man, that was VERY Christian.

It was solid, don't get me wrong, and presented an original and really weird apocalypse setting, and as always the characters were engaging and I wanted to follow them to the end. But, well, I've noticed that the more "Born Again" his books are, the less I usually enjoy them, and this is no exception. It's VERY religious and if you don't want to be whacked over the head with textbook Christianity then you'll probably want to skip it.
