Does It Hurt? by H.D. Carlton
5.0
Tropes:
Lovers to enemies to lovers
Praise
Voyeurism
This dark romance was such an insane ride.. but did I expect less from H.D. Carlton? No. Did I expect this? Also no.
Listen, I am scared of deep water and sharks so going into this I knew it would be a bit of a thriller for me. It totally does have some of those suspenseful, creepy vibes but it made the book super exciting and really grabs your attention.
I went into this knowing I would likely enjoy it since I love her other books, but I didn't exactly know how the plot or story would go. I guessed so many things, but the plot twists really grabbed me by the throat.
Our FMC Sawyer is on the run from the police and does some pretty shady sh*t to keep her identity hidden and stay "on the run." She runs into our MMC Enzo and they have an immediate connection. She goes home with him, and he unfortunately is betrayed by her.
When Enzo realizes what Sawyer did to him he wants revenge. When he comes face to face with her again, he gets his hands on her and takes vengeance, however, neither of them expect what shortly comes after.
The two end up shipwrecked on an island in the middle of nowhere with a decrepit lighthouse which does in fact have an owner who still lives there and has been isolated from the rest of the world most of his life. Sylvester is full of mysteries and definitely gave these characters as well as me, as a reader, the creeps.
The plot in this book is so insanely good. The spice is also INCREDIBLE. I was not ready for all that this story had packed to unfold the way it did but I am so happy with how it all turned out!
“I told you my love was going to hurt like hell. So tell me, does it hurt?”
